Located next to Canford Cliffs, Poole, our Cliff Drive project was designed to replicate the New England style gardens whilst looking at maximising the space on a corner plot and creating and creating a clear divide between spaces.
To achieve the divide between spaces, strategic hedging and screening have been designed to bisect the main parking area and garden whist still allowing for a comfortable turning space. Low hedging creates a visual disconnect between hardscape and hidden pockets of spaces.
The main paving terrace is designed to have a level threshold with the interior meaning that this space is much higher than the proposed lawn level. Large format steps give more grandeur to the terrace and large planting pockets create further interest and act as an edge protection.
The pergola platform, mid way between the terrace and lawn level acts as a focal point from both the house and garden. Bespoke steps allow planting to be installed between treads to visually soften them. An overhead shelter has been implemented which will create dappled shade and shelter.
A formal lawn surrounded by edging forms the centre of the design to allow for a variety of games. Around the outside, decking boardwalks surrounded by atmospheric, sensory woodland planting has been designed to lead the client to a secret platform with a tree house.
The material palette has been chosen to match the character of the existing house in a contemporary format with natural stone wall and large porcelain tiles. The planting design is to be a mixture of woodland planting for the shaded areas with architectural planting surrounding the main terrace areas.
