Located adjacent to delph woods in Broadstone, Dorset, Arrowsmith is surrounded by naturalistic broadleaf woodlands creating an interesting backdrop for this property.
The new house is designed to have a grand driveway leading to the front of the house, with a subtle curve on the driveway to give a reveal effect. Atmospheric planting will surround the driveway with a couple of new feature trees.
This project looks to create a large outdoor living space and create a space to unify the house and garden building. Once you enter the main patio terrace, the orientation of the garden orientation changes to draw your eye down the large formal lawn which is surrounded by umbrella trees to act as a foreground to the naturalistic woodland backdrop. Grid style topiary will be used under the canopy of the umbrella trees to give a formal and clean look to the area.
The main patio terrace is created with large format porcelain tiles with 6 large square planting beds filled with formal topiary breaking up the spaces, reducing the scale to be more intimate and suitable for our clients’ requirements.
One space is designed to be used as a fire table area in the evening. Another space is covered with a louvered pergola to adapt to both rain and provide shade in high heat. The pergola area features a bespoke outdoor kitchen unit with a granite countertop. The granite countertop is slightly larger than the unit allowing for bar style seating on the opposing end to make the outdoor kitchen more social.
There is a secondary lounging terrace next to the house designed to be used with large format outdoor daybeds which links to the internal lounge of the house, giving the flexibility to use the spaces together.
